GST Tax Invoice Software Free Download, without the asterisk. ₹0 a month, no card on file, no countdown — plus fourteen days of the full paid product on every new account so you can see what the ceiling looks like before you settle.
What "free forever" means here
The Free plan is ₹0 and stays ₹0. There is no card on file, so there is no mechanism by which you could be charged by accident, and nothing to cancel if you walk away.
It has volume limits and it leaves out the paid conveniences — that is how it can exist. But the invoices it produces are proper GST invoices with the full Rule 46 field set, the tax split is derived correctly, and your data exports in CSV, Excel and JSON whenever you want it.
Separately, every new account gets the complete paid feature set for its first fourteen days. When that finishes nothing is charged and nothing is deleted: the account settles onto Free and carries on.
There is nothing to download, and that is mostly good
Plainly, because much of this search is looking for a setup file: there is no installer here, no .exe, no "full version" and nothing to look for on a download site. You open a browser and sign in.
For compliance software that is a real advantage rather than only a limitation. Return formats change, the e-invoicing schema changes, HSN requirements change — and installed software has to be updated to match. An out-of-date installation does not warn you; it produces a file the portal rejects, or accepts with figures in the wrong column. A hosted system is on one version, which is this one.
It also avoids the hazard attached to this exact phrase. A cracked installer for billing software is installed on the machine holding your customer list, your purchase records and your tax data, and it does not receive compliance updates either. That is a poor trade for a licence fee.
If you genuinely want installed software, buy a licensed copy of something sold that way. That is a reasonable choice; a pirated copy of it is not.
What the free plan includes
- Real GST invoices — GSTIN, HSN/SAC on every line, place of supply, the correct CGST/SGST or IGST split, and a consecutive series that restarts each financial year.
- Customers and products, with GSTIN, state, HSN and default rates stored once and reused.
- A daily and monthly invoice allowance sized for a small operation.
- One login, which suits a one-person business.
- Payments recorded against invoices, with an outstanding list.
- Full data export — CSV, Excel and JSON — on the free plan, not just the paid ones.
- Nothing to install. It runs in a browser, on a laptop or a phone.
- Fourteen days of the complete paid product on every new account, then it settles onto Free.
What the free plan does not include
- A watermark-free PDF. The free invoice carries a small mark.
- GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B export. The invoices are compliant; the return summaries are a paid feature.
- The AI features — bill scanning, HSN lookup, the assistant, written reminders.
- Extra team logins. Free is a single user.
- Bulk import from CSV or Excel. Export is free; import is not.
- Recurring invoices and payment reminders.
- WhatsApp sharing and custom invoice branding.
- These are the conveniences, not the compliance. Nothing on this list affects whether your invoice is valid.
Getting started on the free plan
- Open the free account — an email address and a password, no card.
- Enter your business name, GSTIN and state. This is what the tax logic works from, so it is worth getting right.
- Add your first customer with their GSTIN and state.
- Add a few products with HSN codes and rates.
- Raise an invoice. Check the tax split — it should already be correct.
- Send the PDF, and carry on. Nothing expires and nothing needs deciding today.
Free download versus free online
A lot of gst tax invoice software free download searches are really looking for a download: an .exe, installed once, working forever, offline.
That model has one genuine advantage — it keeps billing when the connection drops — and several costs that only show up later. The data lives on one machine, so backup is your problem and a failed hard disk is a catastrophe. Nothing bills from a second location. Updates for law changes are a manual job.
Billixo runs in a browser, so there is nothing to download, nothing to update, and no single machine holding your business. If offline billing is genuinely non-negotiable for you, that is a fair reason to choose differently — it is worth deciding deliberately rather than by default.
When free stops being enough
The free plan usually runs out in one of three recognisable ways, and none of them are sudden.
You hire someone and need a second login. You start needing the GST return export every month instead of assembling it by hand. Or you hit the invoice ceiling in the last week of a good month.
At that point upgrading takes a minute and nothing moves — same data, same invoices, same customers, with the caps lifted. And because the plans are bought for a term with no auto-renewal, the decision is never made for you by a card on file.
Reverse charge, exports and the supplies that behave differently
Not every supply is a straightforward taxable sale. Some notified supplies put the tax liability on the recipient rather than the supplier. Exports and supplies to an SEZ can be made under a bond or LUT without payment of tax, or with tax and a refund claimed afterwards. Composition dealers cannot charge tax at all and must say so on the bill.
Each of these changes what the invoice has to say — the reverse charge marking, the LUT reference, the "composition taxable person" declaration. They are not exotic cases; most businesses hit at least one.
The fields are on the invoice in Billixo whether or not you use them, so the day you need one you are not looking for a workaround.
What a GST invoice legally has to carry
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules sets out what a tax invoice must show, and it is a longer list than most invoice templates carry. Getting one field wrong does not usually cost you anything the day you raise it — it costs your customer their input credit months later, which is a harder conversation.
The fields are:
- Your name, address and GSTIN
- A consecutive invoice number, unique within the financial year
- The date of issue
- The customer's name, address and GSTIN where they are registered
- Place of supply, and the state code, for inter-state supplies
- HSN or SAC against every line
- Description, quantity, unit, rate and taxable value per line
- Rate and amount of CGST, SGST/UTGST, IGST and cess, shown separately
- Whether tax is payable on reverse charge
- Signature or digital signature of the supplier or an authorised person
Billixo fills these in from the customer and product records rather than asking you to remember them, which is the only reliable way a busy counter gets them all right every time.
Bill scanning, in practice
The single largest time cost in most small businesses is not raising invoices — it is entering purchases. A photograph of a supplier bill goes in and a structured draft comes out: supplier, GSTIN, line items, rates, tax split and total.
You check it. That is the workflow, and it is deliberate: an extraction you did not read is a liability, not a saving. But checking a filled form takes fifteen seconds and typing one takes three minutes, and that difference compounds over a month of purchases.
Who it is built for
Small and mid-sized Indian businesses that are registered under GST and bill regularly. One person doing everything, or a counter with three people billing at once and an accountant who needs the month to close cleanly.
The design assumption throughout is that whoever raises the invoice is busy and is not a tax specialist. So the tax is computed rather than asked for, the compliance fields are populated rather than presented as questions, and the report the accountant wants is a download rather than a request.

Free, and what it costs you instead
Free software usually costs you something that is not money: your data held hostage, an export that does not work, ads inside your invoice, or a "free" tier so narrow it is a demo with a login screen.
The line here is drawn differently. Export works on the free plan — CSV, Excel and JSON — because data you cannot get out is not data you own. The invoice is a real compliant invoice, not a sample. The limits are on volume and on the conveniences, not on whether the thing works.
Start free now. If it does not suit you, take your data with you.
Reliability, backups and getting your data out
Cloud billing software is only as good as its worst day. Two things matter more than any feature list: that your data is backed up somewhere you can reach, and that you can export it in a format something else can read.
Exports here are CSV, Excel and JSON, on every plan including the free one, covering customers, products, invoices and payments. That is the honest test of whether software respects you — not what it promises, but what it lets you take when you leave.
Frequently asked questions
What happens after the 14 days of full access?
Nothing is charged and nothing is deleted. The account settles onto the Free plan: the conveniences switch off and the volume caps apply, while every invoice, customer and product you created stays where it is.
Can I export my data on the free plan?
Yes — CSV, Excel and JSON, covering customers, products, invoices and payments. Export is deliberately free, because data you cannot get out is not data you own.
Is free GST billing software safe to use for a real business?
The invoices are as valid as any other, provided they carry the mandatory fields — which these do. What to check with any free tool is the export path and where your data lives, because those are what determine whether you are stuck later.
Will my accountant be able to work with it?
That is what the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B summaries are for. They export in formats a practitioner can open and reconcile without repairing the file first — which, in practice, is most of what a CA wants from a client’s billing software.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
Nothing is deleted. The account settles back onto the Free plan: the paid conveniences switch off, the volume limits return, and every invoice, customer and product you created stays exactly where it is — including the export.
Start free, decide later
You do not have to choose a plan to begin. Start on Free, use it for as long as it suits you, and upgrade only when a limit actually gets in your way — never automatically, and never because a countdown ran out.
