Considering sleek bill online? Before comparing features, compare the shape of the thing: how it is delivered, how it is licensed, and where your data lives. That difference outlives every feature list, and it is what this page is about.
Why people look for a Sleek Bill alternative
The reasons that come up most often are not about features. They are about shape: wanting to bill from more than one place, not wanting to own a backup routine, not wanting a licence tied to a machine, or wanting to try something properly before paying for it.
Sometimes it is the opposite — someone on a cloud tool wanting something that works offline. That is a real requirement and worth respecting rather than arguing with.
What is worth avoiding is switching on a feature-list comparison. Features converge; models do not.

Comparing on the things that actually differ
- Where the data lives — on one machine, or on a server you reach from anywhere. This decides what happens when the laptop dies and when a second person needs to bill.
- Whether two people can bill at once on one shared numbering series. This is the requirement that rules out most file-based and single-machine setups.
- Whether the tax is derived or typed. Derived from place of supply and the item rate is correct by construction.
- What the invoice carries — place of supply, HSN or SAC per line, the tax heads shown separately. Check the document, not the feature list.
- Whether purchases reconcile against GSTR-2B, which is what actually decides your input credit.
- What a full export looks like, on the plan you would be on. If you cannot get your records out, nothing else matters.
- What it costs in year two, after any introductory price.
- What happens to your data if you stop paying. "Locked" and "deleted" are both answers worth knowing in advance.
Comparing two browser-based systems
Sleek Bill is GST billing software for Indian businesses, available both installed and in a browser.
When both options are hosted, the usual arguments cancel out — neither is installed, both need a connection, both work from anywhere. Which means the comparison has to be made on things people rarely check.
Four questions do most of the work. Export: everything, in full, in a format you can open, on the plan you would actually be on. What happens if you stop paying — whether the records stay exportable or the account locks. Whether two people can bill on one shared numbering series, and what the second login costs. And what the invoice actually carries — place of supply, HSN or SAC per line, the tax heads separately — which you check by raising one and reading it, not by reading a list.
The migration between two hosted systems is usually the easiest kind: masters export to CSV, import once, carry the outstanding balances, and set the next invoice number to continue the series. A weekend, not a project.
On this side: export is on every plan including the free one, and the free plan has no expiry, so records never end up behind a payment.
What Billixo offers
- Browser-based. Nothing to install or update; the same account from any machine or phone.
- A genuinely free plan. ₹0, no card, no expiry — so you can test it properly before deciding anything.
- GST compliance built in. Every Rule 46 field on the invoice, HSN/SAC per line, and the CGST/SGST versus IGST split derived from place of supply rather than chosen.
- AI bill scanning. Photograph a supplier bill and it becomes a draft purchase record.
- AI HSN lookup from a plain description, for the codes nobody remembers.
- Inventory that moves as you bill, with low-stock warnings.
- Receivables and reminders — ageing, part payments, and a written chase you can send on WhatsApp.
- GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B summaries, exported in a format a practitioner can open directly.
- Bulk import and export — CSV and Excel in; CSV, Excel and JSON out, export free on every plan.
- Fixed-term pricing with no auto-renewal. One payment, no card kept on file.
How to compare them properly, in an afternoon
- Open a free Billixo account — no card, so this costs nothing but time.
- Enter your real business details: GSTIN and registration state, not sample data.
- Add two customers, one in your state and one outside it. This is the test that separates good tax logic from a dropdown.
- Add three of your actual products with their HSN codes.
- Raise the same invoice in both systems and time it honestly.
- Compare the two PDFs side by side as your customer would see them.
- Export a GST summary from each and open both. Whichever needs less repair is the one that will save you the month.
Running both for a month
The lowest-risk way to change billing software is not to change it on a Monday. It is to run the new one alongside the old for a full month, billing a small, real subset of customers through it.
By the end of that month you know three things a demo cannot tell you: whether it is actually faster on your invoices, whether the GST summary reconciles to what you billed, and whether anyone on your team quietly refuses to use it.
A free plan makes that month cost nothing, which is most of why it exists. Start free now.
Keeping what already works
Switching everything at once is rarely necessary. If your accountant files comfortably from one tool and your problem is only that raising invoices is slow, change only the billing.
A billing system that exports clean GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B summaries hands off cleanly to any filing tool or practitioner. The interface between the two is a file, not a platform commitment.

Invoice numbering: one unbroken series per year
The invoice number has to be consecutive, unique within the financial year, and no more than sixteen characters of letters, numbers, slashes and hyphens. Gaps invite questions. Duplicates cause them.
This is the single most common reason a spreadsheet-based billing setup fails an audit: two people billing on two machines, both starting from the last number they remember. A system that issues the number centrally cannot make that mistake.
The series restarts on 1 April, and Billixo restarts it for you rather than waiting to be told.
Credit notes, debit notes, and fixing a wrong invoice
An issued tax invoice is not something to edit. If the value was too high, or goods came back, the correction is a credit note that references the original invoice. If it was too low, a debit note. Both carry their own numbers and both appear in your return.
There is a deadline on the credit note that matters: the adjustment has to be declared by the return for the relevant month of the following financial year, or by the annual return, whichever comes first. Past that, the note exists commercially but the tax cannot be adjusted.
Software that lets you quietly retype an invoice raised last month is not doing you a favour.
Bill scanning, in practice
The single largest time cost in most small businesses is not raising invoices — it is entering purchases. A photograph of a supplier bill goes in and a structured draft comes out: supplier, GSTIN, line items, rates, tax split and total.
You check it. That is the workflow, and it is deliberate: an extraction you did not read is a liability, not a saving. But checking a filled form takes fifteen seconds and typing one takes three minutes, and that difference compounds over a month of purchases.
Who it is built for
Small and mid-sized Indian businesses that are registered under GST and bill regularly. One person doing everything, or a counter with three people billing at once and an accountant who needs the month to close cleanly.
The design assumption throughout is that whoever raises the invoice is busy and is not a tax specialist. So the tax is computed rather than asked for, the compliance fields are populated rather than presented as questions, and the report the accountant wants is a download rather than a request.
Try it free — the free plan needs no card and does not expire.
What "free" means here, exactly
The Free plan costs nothing, needs no card, and has no expiry date. It is not a trial that turns into a bill; it is a plan you can run a small business on indefinitely.
What it gives you:
- Real GST invoices with the full Rule 46 field set
- Customers and products, with HSN/SAC held against each
- A daily and monthly invoice allowance, generous enough for a small operation
- One login
- Export of your own data, whenever you want it
What it does not give you:
- A watermark-free PDF
- GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B export
- The AI features — bill scanning, HSN lookup, the assistant
- Extra team logins, bulk import, recurring invoices and reminders
Every new account also gets the full paid feature set for its first 14 days, so you can see what the ceiling looks like before deciding whether you need it. When that ends nothing is charged and nothing is deleted — the account simply settles onto Free.
Start free now — it takes an email address and about a minute.
Reliability, backups and getting your data out
Cloud billing software is only as good as its worst day. Two things matter more than any feature list: that your data is backed up somewhere you can reach, and that you can export it in a format something else can read.
Exports here are CSV, Excel and JSON, on every plan including the free one, covering customers, products, invoices and payments. That is the honest test of whether software respects you — not what it promises, but what it lets you take when you leave.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import my data from Sleek Bill?
If you can export your customer and product lists to CSV or Excel — and most systems can — then yes, bulk import takes them in one pass. Outstanding invoices normally come across as opening balances rather than as full invoice history.
Do I have to stop using Sleek Bill to try this?
No, and you should not. Run both for a month on a small slice of real billing. That is the only comparison that tells you anything, and the free plan makes it cost nothing.
Which is cheaper?
We will not state Sleek Bill’s pricing — check their site. Ours starts at ₹0 on a free plan with no card and no expiry, and the paid plans are fixed-term with one payment and no auto-renewal.
Is it really free?
Yes. The Free plan is ₹0, needs no card and has no expiry. It has volume limits and leaves out the paid conveniences — watermark-free PDFs, GST return exports, the AI features, extra logins — but the invoices it produces are real GST invoices, and you can export your data from it whenever you like.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in a browser, on a laptop, desktop or phone, so there is nothing to install, nothing to update and nothing tied to one machine. If the office computer dies, you sign in from another one and everything is there.
Try it — the demo is the product
There is no sales call and no scheduled demo, because a recorded walkthrough of somebody else’s data tells you nothing about your own. Open an account instead and raise a real invoice for a real customer; it takes about a minute and costs nothing.
